OWG - What We Do

Well, here's the good news. We are not starving musicians and that's good for us and you. Our main interest is to make music, so we practice and also hit a jam session every few weeks. Our music is a mix of Rock 'n' Roll and Blues, the stuff that you can sing and dance to.

Our decision, as a band, was to play 4, up to 6, fund raising gigs per year.

You raise the money and we'll raise the roof!

We are also available for hire and are setting up our schedule for the rest of  2008.

We have 2 types of sets. The standard is 3 hours with two breaks. We also have a 1 - 2 hour set for festivals where multiple acts are performing. All sets are a mix of Rock, Blues and originals.

OWG - Where Did The Name Come From?

A friend of ours once commented about the current Blues scene in Orlando. He stated that, while Blues is normally associated with smokey juke joints and mostly black musicians, our Blues jam was held in a non-smoking restaurant with mostly old white guys playing and listening. Need we say more?

OWG - History (by Steve)

The Old White Guys (OWG) formed in 2004 to raise money for the Winter Springs High School Debate Team (My daughter was in charge of fund raising). We were discussing fund raising ideas and, looking for any excuse to play guitar and make a fool of myself, I suggested an Oldies/Rock and Blues dance night for adults. The team's coach (exercising outstanding judgement) agreed and I went about putting a band together.

First I turned to my old partner in music, Chuck. We  had been playing together for about 8 years in a praise band we formed at church to start a new evening service. The band was named More Praise For Christ (MPFC). Being the sick minds, and Monty Python fans that we are, MPFC also stood for Monty Python's Flying Circus. The best of both worlds.

I met Gary at a  local blues jam session. We always hit it off and had played together for several months. Gary signed on to play bass guitar. Now all we needed was a drummer!

A friend of a friend recommended Mike and, as it turned out, he was pretty darned good (and free) so we signed him on right away.

Well, as most bands do, we've gone through some personnel changes and Chuck is now playing bass and helping out with vocals, Marlon Savarino is wailing on harp, Herb Ransburg is handling lead guitar and Dave Cherepa is our sound engineer. Rob will fill in on bass from time to time. Check our for more info. We've upgraded our sound system, tightened up our sets and are looking forward to a good schedule of gigs for the rest of the year.

We would like to thank and acknowledge our wonderful wives and families for supporting our music, practice schedule and gigs. They are the best cure for the 'Blues' that anyone could ask for!

The buttons on the left will take you to the pages that have content.

Check back often and there will be new sound clips as well as pages with new OWG Stuff (Merchandise).
